ISOMETRICS
These are exercises involving maximum efforts, lasting from 4 to 8 seconds, made against immovable resistence, so that there is no muscular displacement. There are usually three repetitions of each exercise, each one at a different joint angle. The exercises generally number 5 to 10 with a 2-3 minute pause between each exercise. The advantages of this type of work are a rapid increase of trength with simple exercises of short duration. The disadvantages are the lack of movement and variety, and possible negative cardiac reaction.
